My most recent article, The First Thing We Teach in Art History Might Be Its Biggest Problem, gained a lot of traction and had interesting conversations taking place in the comments. A few of them asked me where I would start and why. (Side note: this is one of my favorite parts of writing on Substack! I love being able to engage with others across the world about my favorite subjects.) So, I thought it would be a fun idea to create a personal curriculum that my paid subscribers could use to learn about specific eras in art history. Naturally, I have to start with where I always start my survey classes: prehistoric art. Almost all the resources are open access (the documentaries at the end require streaming services) and the list contains a variety of readings, videos, and podcasts.
